On 8 July 2017, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the ǂKhomani Cultural Landscape in South Africa on the list of World Heritage Sites.
The ǂKhomani Cultural Landscape is located at the border with Botswana and Namibia in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
The large expanse of sand contains evidence of human occupation from the Stone Age to the present and is associated with the culture of the formally nomade ǂKhomani San people and the strategies that allowed them to adapt to harsh desert conditions. They developed a specific ethnobotanical knowledge, cultural practices and a worldview related to the geographical features of their environment.
The ǂKhomani Cultural Landscape bears testimony to the way of life that prevailed in the region and shaped the site over thousands of years.

Peace Parks Foundation has been working with South Africa’s National Lotteries Commission, the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and Rotary Deutschland Gemeindienst since 2009 to develop the !Ae!Hai Kalahari Heritage Park, which aims to preserve the cultural and traditional knowledge of these indigenous communities, while improving their opportunities to earn a livelihood.
